These are a few of the most common types of faults we repair:

Virus’ / Trojans / Spyware
Virus’ are one of the major risks to any computer user in today’s world. The main problem is not knowing how vulnerable you and your hardware are at to getting them.

Not only is it annoying getting virus’ as you machine does not run properly, or possibly make it freeze and crash. A lot of these are not the issue. Many of these virus’ / trojans will plant trackers on your machine. They then record every keystroke you make, but most serious of all, they will record any passwords and also bank passwords etc.
Signs of virus’:
- Computer running slow
- Ghosting on the screen
- Pop-ups
- You will be redirected to various sites which you didnt select
- Computer freezes
- Programmes take a long time to open
- Programmes wont open
- You loose administration rights
- Delete and change files
- Reformat your hard drive
- Effect computers
- Network and the internet

These are the most common virus’
System Sector Viruses infect executable code found in certain system areas on a disk. There are boot-sector viruses, which infect only the DOS boot sector, this kind of virus can prevent you from being able to boot your hard disk, and MBR viruses which infect the Master Boot Record on fixed disks and the DOS boot sector on diskettes. All common boot sector and MBR viruses are memory resident.

File Viruses infect applications. These viruses usually infect COM and/or EXE programs, though some can infect any program for which execution or interpretation is requested, such as SYS, OVL, OBJ, PRG, MNU and BAT files. File infectors can be either direct-action (non-resident) or resident. A direct-action virus selects one or more programs to infect each time a program infected by it is executed. A resident virus installs itself somewhere in memory (RAM) the first time an infected program is executed, and thereafter infects other programs when they are executed or when other conditions are fulfilled. Most viruses are resident.

Macro Virus a program or code segment written in the internal macro language of an application and attached to a document file (such as Word or Excel). Infect files you might think of as data files. But, because they contain macro programs they can be infected. When a document or template containing the macro virus is opened in the target application, the virus runs, does its damage and copies itself into other documents. Continual use of the program results in the spread of the virus. Some macros replicate, while others infect documents.

Multipartite Viruses may fall into more than one of the top classes. Depending on what needs to be infected, they can infect system sectors or they can infect files.

Polymorphic Virus creates varied (though fully functional) copies of themselves as a way to avoid detection from anti-virus software.

Stealth Virus hides its presence by making an infected file not appear infected, but doesn’t usually stand up to anti-virus software. Many stealth viruses intercept disk-access requests, so when an anti-virus application tries to read files or boot sectors to find the virus, the virus feeds the program a “clean” image of the requested item. Other viruses hide the actual size of an infected file and display the size of the file before infection.

We can fix you machine in-house for a fixed labour charge of £39.99. This includes either trying to cleanse it or reinstalling the machine, depending on the level of infection.

Keyboard and mouse faults
If you keyboard or mouse does not work, there are a few things to check, before it may need to be brought in, for a repair.
- If it is a wireless mouse / keyboard, check the batteries and try resyncing
- Make sure the usb or PS2 plug it pushed in properly
- Check with another keyboard / mouse (please bring into one of our stores and we can check this for free)
Hard drive faults and raid setup and configuring
Hard drive failure is only a major problem if sufficient back-up of the data has not been made. As the hard drive is an integral part of the laptop running, generally you can get the ‘blue screen of death’ many times the machine will show an error saying it cant find the hard drive.
Generally hard drives are easily accessible and we will be able to replace them including the charge of a standard repair and rescue charge of £39.99
RAID issues can reacte in similar ways as hard-drive failure, depending on the type of RAID and the controller, we can rebuild all types of RAID partition.
Our fixed price including reinstallation of operating system is £39.99.

Shutting down, blue screen
Computers that shut down after using for a varying period of time may be over heating, or there may be faulty components or possible is clogged up inside. This can often be caused by dust or possibly the environment it is used in. Many times the thermal paste (this is where the processor creates a bond with the cooling fan) can dry out, so the heat cannot disapate properly.

Over heating can also be prevented by adding additional cooling fans, we also have a range of these in our stores.

Our fixed price including reinstallation of operating system is £39.99.

Power supply issues
Power supply failures are one of the most common failures with modern desktop computers, we always have plenty of these in stock. Generally when a power supply fails the computer is completely dead, does nothing. However sometimes it can just short supply the board of the right amount of power it needs.
ADVICE = always use a surge protected plug socket or extension lead. Power spikes can not only kill a pwer supply, they can also cause damage to the motherboard, hard drive, optical drive and other external devises.
Impact damage
If the computer has received an impact, there are various things that can happen, either break and need replacing or possibly re-seating.
We can fix these for our fixed inhouse labour charge of £39.99 plus any parts which may be needed.
Software Faults
There are many types of software corruption, the symptoms can vary from the machine not running smoothly to the machine not booting at all.
We can repair these for our fixed price instore repair of £39.99.
